(Packing for your Move – Part 2 – Assembling Moving Boxes)
At this point, you know what you are packing and what
moving boxes you need.
Now you will need to pack, mark, and stage your moving boxes in an easy and efficient way. To over-simplify to action of packing
moving boxes,
you simply pack one box at a time.
Properly Assembling and Taping a
Moving Box
(top)
  A) Stand the box on an end so that the writing is upside down.
  B) Carefully place your fingers in between the top slats of the
moving box and at the same time, push the sides of
the moving box outward.

  C) Once you have the moving box opened, look to the corner slats and find an extra
piece of cardboard box attaching two slats together.

  D) Cut that small piece away to free up all of the moving box slats.
  E) Fold the small slats of the moving box inward and then follow with the larger slats.
  F) Start a strip of
moving tape about six inches down on the side of the
moving box and
line it up where the two large slats of the moving box come together.
  G) Firmly press the tape strip down all the way across the span of the two slats on the
bottom of the moving box and continue down the other side of the moving box about six inches
and cut the tape.
  H) Next, start a strip of moving tape about six inches down on the
moving box on the same
side of the moving box and in between the previous strip of moving tape and the corner of the box.
  I) Run that strip of moving tape diagonally across the bottom of the
moving box and end it
in the opposite position on the other side of the moving box.
  J) Do the same thing for the other corners of the moving box.
  K) Run a strip of moving tape across the open bottom edges of the
moving box.
  L) When you are finished packing your moving box, repeat these steps on the top of
the moving box.
Properly Cushioning the Bottom of the Moving Box with
Packing Paper
(top)
If you are packing fragile items you will need to cushion the moving box with packing
paper.
  A) Once you have your moving box assembled, move it to the room in your house where you
will be packing.
  B) Grab a corner from the stack of packing paper
newsprint and crumple that one corner.
  C) Do not pick up the whole sheet of paper, just the corner. Repeat this with about three
or four pieces of packing paper.
  D) Fold those crumpled corners into the center portion of the stack of newsprint.
  E) Repeat these steps for the three remaining corners of the packing paper.
  F) Once all of the corners are crumpled and folded into the center of the packing paper
stack, grab the center so that you have all (or mostly all) of the corners in your hand.
  G) Place the crumpled side down in the bottom of the moving box.
  H) Repeat this as many times as it takes to evenly cover the bottom of the
moving box
with these paper pillows.
